Microchipping at VetMed

Why should I microchip my pet?

Micro-chipping is compulsory for all puppies and kittens before they turn 12 weeks old. Your microchipped puppy or kitten must then be registered with the Council by the age of 6 months. If your pet gets lost without its collar, a microchip may be the only identification that ensures its safe return home.

How does microchipping work?

A micro-chip the size of a grain of rice is injected under your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades. A unique identification number, stored within the microchip, is used to identify your pet. This number can be read by a special microchip scanner.
